PS7 — Edge Glow

This project explores the integration of personal interest, aesthetics, and functionality into a single product. Inspired by a passion for automotive design, the final outcome is an acrylic light box that illuminates a car illustration while also serving as a charging station.

The design process began with selecting and refining a car drawing suitable for laser engraving. The image was simplified into clean vector lines to ensure clarity when illuminated. The goal was to create a strong visual effect where the engraved lines glow evenly under edge lighting.

The structural design focused on combining the light panel and charging function into a cohesive form. The acrylic panel slots into a base that houses the light source, while an extended, heat-formed section supports the Apple Watch charger. This required careful consideration of proportions, stability, and cable management.

Fabrication involved laser cutting and engraving the acrylic sheet, followed by heat bending to create the curved extension for the charging module. The base was assembled to securely hold the light source and align it with the panel. The Apple Watch charger was embedded into the acrylic structure, with wires routed cleanly to maintain a minimal appearance.

The final product functions as both an ambient light and a daily-use charging station. The illuminated car design enhances the visual experience, while the integrated charging feature adds practical value. This project demonstrates how combining personal passion with thoughtful design can create objects that are both meaningful and functional.
